OK, it's true he had left me alone for quite a while, but he surely could have stayed where he was. Dennis left at 3:30 this morning, at 11 am I get in my car to go to the Supermarket . . . No battery, completely flat. Last time I used the car was on the 14th, all fine, 4 days later completely flat.
It's has been like this since years. I have cried, argued, threatened any garage I brought my car too, that there is a fault somewhere, kind of a short circuit that makes the battery flatten in Winter. Well nobody finds it, so if they don't find it, it doesn't exist.
It annoys me soooooo much .
Anyway, now stuck at home and waiting for RAC (thanks God I have that for my car) to get me started.
Something I need to compliment Murphy about though (in hope he will really appreciate and let this one be) is that the heating works. I had to switch it on as I was really frozen, even we all my jumpers.
Bubbles had a fabulous birthday meal, the advantage for Rhea is she obviously got the same one
Might not look like much but Basmati Rice with boiled chicken and Tuna Fish, they both would stand on their back feet for that
I couldn't take a photo of her not moving. She was also checking the floor (in case I would have thrown some there, LOL) and if Rhea would have left some (as if she would).
This morning when we went downstairs at 3am, they both looked a bit tired.
That's how I notice that Rhea is really getting older because even at 8am, she still needed her beauty sleep. I can't believe, she will be 11 soon.
October Nostalgia Challenge : A Giant leap
A lot of things have changed during my life time and there is a lot I will talk about this week, but I think the most impressive of all was the phone. we all take it for granted to call for telling somebody we will be late, or ask for news, but it wasn't always like this.
When I was a child, we didn't have a phone in the house, it was too expensive. My grand-father, uncle and auntie lived one floor below and they . . .
. . . talking about phone, just got a call from RAC, they are extremely busy and cannot come before 2pm. I got stuck one and a half hours ago and they only will come in another hour and a half. . . Already looking forward to Tuesday.
Anyway, so on the floor below they had a phone and when somebody was trying to reach us, if they were home to pick up the phone, they were hitting the ceiling with a broom, so we knew it was for us. It was very unpractical to say the least. My grand-mother ( on my mother's side) got sick of it so when I was 17, she had a phone installed in our apartment. I remember she paid 4000 French franks, the equivalent of £400 in 1973. It was unbelievably expensive.
Then came the mobile phone. I remember I was in Germany, I needed to go to a fair, and my boss gave me a portable phone that was 1.5 Kg and the size of my handbag basically and the recommendation to only use it in emergencies as calling was so expensive. That was in 1993. Only a couple of years later, I bought a Sony cell phone, much smaller and discreet (although 3 times the size of our cell phones now. I was going to visit my parents and I needed to be reachable from work. I remember being in Munich Airport when my phone rang. Everybody looked at me like I must have been such a VIP to have a phone. It was very funny actually. Now people look at you like a zombie if you don't have a cell phone.
With Dennis's work and constant travel, I don't know how we could keep in touch without cell phones.
Take care everybody, xxx

Thank you Anne for your phone story.. Col has a Panasonic mobile he had to carry in a rucksack, it had a proper handset and the keypad was luminous.. that was in 1991 and we always say it was how we did our courting, if we hadn't had ll those calls to cement our relationship.. awh x
Great story, I too have a phone story for this week, my kids look at me as if they cannot even imagine what it is I am telling them, for that matter I hardly can, how wierd for them to imagine a pre-digital age. xxx
Get lost Murphy!
I think the phone is one of the biggest changes too our lives.
Here I am!
I read your post - you write always a lot of fun stuff! Thank you, Anne!
The photos are great - really like this black bowl for food.
I agree with you about the phones, and yet I think in another direction.
Have a nice day!
I thought I had already posted a comment but I guess I didn't. LOL! Old-timers disease. I love the pictures of the girls. They look so sweet. Great story as usual. xxxx
