Yes, gloomy is the word. Well, I shouldn't complain, we even didn't get wet in the park, this time !
Project 365+1 - Day 25: Motionless
I had several ideas for today's word.
The first that came in mind was to take a photo of a clock. Silly I know, as if there is something we can't stop , it's time, but it was to point out the fact that sometimes, time seems to be frozen. Anyway, I gave up no that one.
Then we went to the park and we passed by my favourite tree, so I took a photo of it, but having seen a documentary on some trees in the Amazon forest, traveling 2 to 3 cms per year, who knows if this guy isn't traveling as well... so I had to give up on that one too, but it is still a beautiful tree deserving a photo.
Then we walked to the river. Rhea just turned 9 and with hip dysplasia and severe arthritis, I only allow her in the river in summer. She is always running free, but she is very disobedient, so in a situation like this, I need to put her on lead.
I don't think there is any dog or "being" on the planet more stubborn than she is. When she wants to go somewhere and I don't want her to, I stop walking. She then will pull until the lead is close to breaking point and lay down. The rope between us becomes so tense that you could play music on it.
I can call, pull, ask politely, threaten, she doesn't care and she won't move. One way is to physically remove her by lifting her, but with her 30 kgs and my 55 years, that's not going to happen and the little beast knows that. So it is a start of a powerplay on who will give up first and thankfully for me, she always does.
If I try to bribe her with a biscuit, she won't take it, but if I ignore her and start talking out loud about the nice biscuits waiting for us at home, you can see after a while that she can't stand it. Her ears are moving around until she finally gets up and comes to me, eyes the size of a flying saucer "Could you please count me in for a biscuit".
So here is your motionless photo, before the "talking out loud" trick !
Take care everybody, xxx

lol!! She sounds a right character!! Great shot. And Iove the tree too :)
Our dog can't resist the water and you can guarantee that if there is a splash on a walk- Holly has found a way down to the closest available water! We walked with a friends dogs on Sunday and they looked in disbelief at her going in EVERY bit of water we went past! We have had the odd occasion where dh has thought he was going to have to go in to get her - as she blissfully ignores all commands when she's swimming. The only chance we have sometimes is the call of the 'squeaky toy'!
made me laugh she is a devil
Definitely a character... I get the same stand-offs with my 3 1/2yr old daughter sometimes LOL! (not 'cos she wants to jump in the river btw ;-) ...)
lol bless her
Dogs are such characters aren't they
A great story. My Harvey does not like water (despite being a spaniel!) The last time we tried to get him in the water, he decided to do his business in the river out of sheer terror. We felt terrible and have decided it's a lost cause.
