Good new Bad news

Yesterday afternoon, I went to pick up Rhea. When the Vet called me in she wasn't in his office yet, he normally does that when he wants me to listen carefully and not be distracted  by her.

It's the second time I use the title " Good news bad news " in my blog and as for the 1st time, who knows what's really good and really bad.

What was announced as good is that the medicine for her kidneys worked really well and all the numbers came down back inside the bracket normal values. We will have to do another blood test in 2 months, but so far so good for this problem.

The bad news ( and I really struggle to see an ounce of optimism in these ) came from her hips. He showed me the X-Rays of January 2009 and the X-rays just taken. The difference is disastrous and it is to wonder how she even still walks. To give you a small anatomy lesson, the top bone of the hip is basically a sphere that is freely moving inside an empty half sphere, so everything stays well in place. Rhea doesn't have a sphere anymore at the top of her hip bone, but something like a triangle, so no wonder it causes her problems. Add to that hip dysplasia, bad knees with severe arthritis, my poor girl is in trouble.

She got a lot of strong medicine. If they are efficient, she should be kind of her old self within a week. If not . . .  well, there is hardly a plan B. I told the Vet that with her insurance she is entitled to a full hip replacement but he said the problem is that she is too old, her general condition isn't fantastic and it would be a risk for her. So I guess we only would be considering this operation if one day she would be stuck to her basket and couldn't walk at all.

It's true that when she came back home yesterday afternoon, after only a very small sedation for the X-rays she was very unsettled, disorientated . . .

To talk about something different, yesterday I received Happy Mail. I tell you for 2 reasons. Firstly because I was extremely happy as I just came back from dropping Rhea and I was on the down side. Secondly because it's funny.

In my letter box, there was this bright pink envelop that came from Nicky ( Picxie ) and it was making noise inside. I thought she sent me seeds to plant in my garden. In fact there was a nice card inside with some effervescent candy ( ? ! ? ) and she thought ( rightly ) that they might brighten my mood. The funny part is that I had never eaten, seen or even heard about fuzzy candies so I had to ask her for a user manual. I know, I can be worse than a countryside girl going to town for the first time. Put it on my French growing up !

Anyway, it was a really nice experience and in the end I enjoyed my sweets very much, lol.

Last night, I wanted to keep an eye on Rhea, because she was acting a bit weird, so we kept the dogs in our bedroom. Good for them but we didn't sleep too well, neither too long as I was up at short after 6am.

I gave them both breakfast. It's amazing how many meds Rhea actually needs. They all need to be open and mixed with her food, what takes so long that Bubbles complains ( she doesn't get any meds ). There is even another very small tablet that I give her separately with some ham to make sure it doesn't get lost..

After breakfast we all went to the park so DH could bring Rhea back if she didn't want to walk. She went her 100m circle, sniffed a bit and seemed happy but then she decided she had enough

so DH slowly took her back home. She was upset that I stay in the park and Bubbles was upset that DH goes back home, so it took a little while to have everybody settling.

The weather was nice

and Bubbles had a good play with a friend

when she wasn't messing around with the signs of the cross country race ( I DO love this app ! )

We found a beautiful tree bark with some Ivy.

Project 365+1 - Day 161 : Frayed

What a good team we are with Jen ! I send her the word everyday and today I received back the definition. Yee Haw !
Once I understood the word, it was easy. I had to ask Bubbles permission to take her monkey (as she was sleeping with it) because he fits the definition perfectly. She let me take it but supervised the whole photo operation, in case I wouldn't be careful enough, lol.

In 7 years, she has had several of these monkeys, always the same brand. The 1st monkey lasted a good year, the 2nd one 6 months and so on down to as soon as we buy one it more or less gets immediatley damaged although Bubbles really takes good care of it. This one has already been repaired as much as can be, but it seems nowadays that quality has become a foreign word . . .

So here is Monkey in a terribly frayed status :

Take care everybody, xxx

Huge hugs Anne. Hope the meds help her now. My friends dog is facing a hip replacement soon.
Holly is useless with cuddly toys so we would have to have had a huge stock of spares each week.

Ahhh, so you are getting to the bottom of the problem though, so although the news is not so great at least there is knowledge..you could say your nerves have been a little 'frayed'..at the edges as you wait! xx

Oh Monkey is sweet, I love that Bubbles looks after him, Minty likes to eat hers and Fudge is not interested since he ate the skirting board when he was a puppy :)

Well, as KathiJo says, at least you know a bit more, but such a worry. Give Rhea a nice gentle stroke from me and Minty and Fudge.

The photos are great and the comic ones made me lol :) I'm glad I could return the favour a bit today! xxx

Special hugs for you and Rhea right now. It's good news about her kidneys. I don't know what to say about her hip though, and I am so sorry for that. I know how much you love your dogs so it must be heartbreaking when you get bad news like this. I know they appreciate the love that you give them. Hugs again.
