Sliding doors

When I started this photo challenge, I thought it would be nice to be part of a group and go back to photography (that I seriously neglected over the years) and it was also a  good way for helping me up focus regarding this PTSD thing. Last but not least, I absolutely loved the idea.

In fact, it looks now like I signed up for a second mid-life crisis. Not complaining though as it's always interesting to "go back inside and have a look at what needs serious attention" !

When I went to the park this morning, I was so much into all what I read in different blogs about yesterday's word "Friendship" that I realized almost back home that I hadn't taken a single picture on that walk. Having my head in the clouds, I thought a picture of the sky would be appropriate.

All the different experiences I read made me reflect a lot and it was funny and sad and hurting and comforting . . . I think I can say I am happy with my current life, but that doesn't mean I don't ask myself a lot of questions about "and what if . . . ?".

Have you seen the movie Sliding Doors? It's my favourite of all times. It is about fate, coincidence, synchronicity. The Imdb web site describes it that way: "A London woman's love life and career both hinge, unknown to her, on whether or not she catches a train. "
The movie shows what happens to her when she catches the train and when she doesn't and it is fascinating because we all go through that, also without being aware of it.

We make choices, causing certain things to happen and certain others not to. It was kind of "hurting me" yesterday to read that some of you have the same best friend since nursery. I had a best friend when I was very small and a part of me would have loved staying home and keeping her. But my dream always had been to travel when I would be older, so that's what I did and because I lived in so many countries, I ended up having best friends a bit everywhere on the planet, but never where I currently live.

It is nice too, it's just that because they are so far away Internet play such a big role in my life, via Emails and Skype and sending photos. I have a great great Friend in Munich, we talk and email regularly but haven't seen each other in 12 years, because life makes everybody busy and it is so sad.

I have a good friend here and we do things together, but sometimes I wonder how it would be for me to still live in Marseille and have a cup of coffee twice a week with my best friend of 50 years who would live only a couple of doors down.

I guess I never will know, will I?

Project 365+1 - Day 45: Candle

I love candles, especially perfumed candles. Because I couldn't chose one, I took a picture of my candles drawer.

Oh and Happy Valentine, we  only celebrate with a card and a kiss, but it is nice to think about others we love on that day.

Take care everybody, xxx

oohh loved your ponderings today anne :) i suppose it is like that with a lot of us "expats" but even when i was little i never really had a "best friend", i just had friends... then, when we were in the forces, i got used to moving and having to fit in with a new bunch of girls.. but my most precious friendships are those i forged over the years online... in fact, i married my BEST online friend!!!

And for your candle collection.. yet another thing we seem to have in common :D i love going to ikea and buying all the different mix packs of scented tealights and we have a great shop in town where you can get lovely candles.

I love that you have a candle drawer. My friend is obsessed with candles and has a candle cupboard in her kitchen. It makes present buying easier. My new candle takes tea lights- so I may join in with the obsession yet!

I sometimes wish that I lived a lot closer to my friends but like you I catch up online with some lovely friends.

I must admit I have become wary of having a 'best friend' as I seem to be a jinx. Four of my closest friends in succession have died untimely deaths, one in her thirties from an asthma attack, two in their forties and one in her fifties. One of these from a heart attack and two from breast cancer. I now have friends, but no one so close that their loss would cut deeply. Maybe I'm wrong to think this way, but I am now at an age where it seems sympathy cards are needed every month, not once or twice a year!

Yes, we have a candle drawer too. My husband likes candles more than I do - I even bought him a candle making kit once and he loved it!

Anne, your thoughts today made me think about my friends over the years and the ones I've also lost in one way or another.Even though I still keep in touch with my nursing friends, others I contact once a year at Christmas via a letter. We just move on don't we.

I love the jumble of candles in your photo.
