The potatoe trick

Yesterday I was thinking about Holly refusing to eat carrots ( not that I obsess about it, LOL ) but it reminded me of a funny story about how the potatoe was introduced in France.

It was during Louis the XVI reign, around 1780. He got offered a potatoe plant. It was a plant nobody had seen before .The potatoe plant grew and gave potatoes but nobody in the palace wanted to try it as nobody had seen a potatoe before, so they decided to give the potatoes to the people and see what happens to them.

It was a bad time for France ( getting closer to the Revolution in 1789 ), the People were facing starvation and the King was absolutely hopeless. There is this famous sentence when being told "  Sir, the people are hungry " he replied " Then why don't they eat ? ".

So the King decided to give these potatoes to the people. People were hungry but a sudden gift from the King ??? They thought the king was trying to poison them, so they refused to eat the potatoes. Louis the XVI was furious but had a clever move by posting guards all around the potatoes fields of the palace.

The people then thought that potatoes had to be valuable and very good, if not they wouldn't be guarded. So at night, several teams went to the palace to steal potatoes, what they obviously managed as the guards had orders to fall asleep and let people steal them.

That's the way potatoes were introduced into France.

So if you want them to have it, convince them they are not allowed to, LOL.

Yesterday after the pool, I had a massive wash of towels but because it rained all afternoon I had to hang them inside and so many wet towels with such a damp weather, that doesn't dry well ! When I got up this morning, it wasn't raining so I hung everything outside.

It only lasted 10 minutes and then it started raining so I rushed out, took everything away and hung everything back inside again. As soon as I did that, the sun was shining. Arrgghhhh !

So I thought OK, let's go to the park. It was a bit threatening but it was dry ( at least the air was ) .

The clouds were glorious again

I found a bee

Then Rhea started being a bit tired and because of her swimming yesterday, I didn't want to push it so we turned to go back. It was the right decision because these were the skies when we were 100 meters away from home.

We were caught by the rain, but just a bit !

Project 365+1 - Day 193 : Cold

What an adventure we are on ! When I texted the word to Jen this morning I told her
" Wow, a word that applies to our situation ". I suppose that initially Suzie would have expected us to take pictures of cold drinks with ice cubes, LOL.

I didn't have to go far to find my cold. Every morning I check the weather report on my phone and today temperature is surely cold for July 11th !

Now, just for fun, this is today's weather report in my home town

My parents say that it gets so hot they have to stay inside during the afternoon.

We humans, are never happy with what we have, LOL.

Take care everybody, xxx

Us English have always been obsessed with the weather but even more so this year!

I would love it to be that temp here :) mind you I wouldn't get much done!

we had 11 degrees this morning :) I know what you mean about never being happy, I would just like a happy medium, but we either have cold or hot :)

Well done on not getting too wet and hope the towels dry eventually.

What a huve of information you are.. sounds like a story from 'Horrible Histories' ' kids would enjoy your story telling better than in a classroom! It really is miserably cold isn't it!!

Lovely post today Anne :)

I adore the clouds as usual. Well done for nearly evading the rain!

Love the shot of your towels briefly drying :)

Lucky Marseille, I don't need that heat but a few purely sunny days would do a great way to salve our summer loving emotions :) xxx

lol- don't think we'll convince Holly carrots are great for dogs! She roots around dinners and leaves carrots and peas.

We've had a wet and miserable day again today and it's cold here, too.

I love your story about potatoes Anne. I wish it would be a little warmer here but not as warm as in Marseilles
